We have a Big Fight

October 18th, 2010

Oral cancer is on the rise!

That is very scary !  Typically it is found in thse who have used alot of alcohol and/or tobacco in middle aged people. With Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) on the rise in ypunger people (often sexually transmitted), a new wave of disease may be facing us. Early detectionis VERY important.

Oral cancer is typically detected by visual exam and palpation. By the time we see or feel something that treatment can be disfiguring and very dysfunctional to your mouth. The survival rate is 90% if detected early with only a 50% 5 year survival in the late stages. Hopefully, Michael Douglas is in that first category.

It is very important to get an early screening with Velscope, which is a special light that sees into the tissue so that we visualize the dysplastic tissue before it grows. We offer this test to every patient who visits our hygienist or suspects anything suspicious.  More information.

Please be sure to call us before its too late.
