Cosmetic Dentistry and Celebrity Smiles
- Posted on: Sep 3 2014
A good smile is an invaluable trait for humans. We interact through our faces, through speech and hearing as well as through facial, non-vocal expressions. A good smile is obviously attractive, but it’s also inviting and disarming. For these reasons, someone like a celebrity cannot afford to have a bad smile (unless he/she is a character actor). Here are some celebrity smiles that owe their aesthetic beauty to cosmetic dentistry.
5. Nicolas Cage
Sure nowadays he’s seen as a typical Hollywood crazy man, but Nic Cage used to star in critically acclaimed films and win awards—see Leaving Las Vegas. When he was getting his start in the 1980s, Nic Cage decided to make some dental moves. He had two teeth pulled for a role in Birdy, his teeth professionally cleaned and came back to the big screen a new man.
4. Ben Affleck
When Ben Affleck got started in Hollywood, he was a mediocre actor with an ehh smile whose only good acting was as a working class Bostonian. Nowadays, he’s an acclaimed director and has a mouth full of impeccable porcelain veneers that have elongated he’s previously short teeth.
3. Jim Carrey
It doesn’t seem as though Jim Carrey has had much cosmetic dentistry done on his mouth…save one obvious and hilarious spot. Years ago, Carrey chipped his tooth and, like any rational person, got it covered with a cap. That is until 1994’s Dumb and Dumber when Carrey decided removing the cap would make the film funnier. Can’t argue with that.
2. Clark Gable
Clark Gable was no stranger to cosmetic surgery, despite the fact his heyday was the 1930s and 40s. Gable was a compulsively clean man, but that didn’t save him from gum problems in his youth. A serious case of periodontitis in 1933 sent him to the hospital. They extracted nearly all his teeth and had to wear reputedly weird-smelling dentures in his thirties. Despite this, he continued his philandering ways.
1. Tom Cruise
Despite what people think, Tom Cruise is still the man. He may be into Scientology and come across as odd off-screen, but he’s a better actor than most of the trash that populate the big screen these days. But before being crazy, Tom Cruise was the hot celeb every woman loved. But before that, Tom was just a young actor with a terrible set of teeth. Sometime around the making of Mission Impossible he upgraded to a full set of veneers. So while his latest movie may have faltered at the box office, Tom Cruise at least still has one of the best celebrity smiles.
