New Protein For Dental Implant Patients
- Posted on: Aug 21 2020
Millions of people have replaced missing teeth with jaw-bone anchored dental implants, like those available at Flax Dental in Atlanta.
A dental implant is a titanium post inserted into the jaw bone. Once the implant and bone grow together there is a strong base for a natural-looking artificial tooth.
Dental implants are usually the perfect restoration for people who want to replace a missing tooth. There is a problem, however, if the jaw bone is too thin at the implant location.
When a tooth is extracted, the bone loses the blood circulation at the site. The bone can begin to recede. Bone grafting can promote enough new growth there.
Now researchers have identified a protein that accelerates the production of new bone. The research team implanted bone morphogenetic protein in test subjects and discovered that more new bone formed within four weeks than with conventional bone grafting.
The procedure is not yet available to the general public, but does hold promise for the not too distant future.
At Flax Dental in Atlanta we have placed a lot of dental implants. Patients from Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, and Dunwoody come to our office for implants and other restorative dentistry. Call to schedule an appointment today!
