What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are custom-made, tooth-colored shell coverings. When they are bonded to your teeth, they will change the whole appearance of your smile. Porcelain is very durable and natural-looking and mimics your natural tooth structure.
What problems do Porcelain Veneers fix?
- Close gaps between your teeth
- Restore broken or chipped teeth
- Give your teeth a permanently white look
- Cover stained, unsightly, crooked or misshapen teeth
Who is a good candidate for Veneers?
We offer complimentary consultations to answer that very question! We have a way to quickly determine if veneers are the right choice for you. Dr. Flax can discuss with you options that may be appropriate for your individual situation.
Porcelain Veneers Procedure
Once the smile design has been selected, the tooth may need to be prepared. If preparation is needed, a very tiny portion of the tooth will be shaved down so that there is a seamless transition between the tooth and the veneer. This photograph does a nice job of illustrating how thin the porcelain veneer actually is and how very little of the tooth structure is removed. The veneer itself is about 0.5 millimeter thick, about the thickness of a fingernail. In some cases, no preparation is needed at all.
In the application appointment, you will have a final opportunity to see precisely how the the veneers will look before they are permanently placed. And once you give the final go-ahead, the application process will begin. Dr. Flax will bond them directly to the surface of your teeth. They will be touched up and shaped so that no one will be able to see where your natural tooth ends and the new veneers begin. You won’t be able to stop smiling once you see how gorgeous they look.
Veneers before and after
No Preparation Durathin® Veneers
DURAthin® Veneers are extra strong so they can be made extra thin. That means that sometimes you can have a smile makeover without any tooth preparation at all, thus eliminating any concern about removing healthy tooth structure.
DURAthin® Veneers were created to adhere directly to your teeth with virtually no drilling, grinding or shaving.
Lumineers are another brand of ultra-thin veneers that may not require any tooth preparation. Dr. Flax isn’t as fond of this brand because of the trademark restrictions that require them to be made by the Lumineers laboratory instead of his master ceramist. Visit our Lumineers page to learn more about the pros and cons of this brand or porcelain veneers.
Instead of coming into the office with a particular brand or type of treatment in mind, we recommend you meet one-on-one with accredited cosmetic dentist Dr. Flax. He will be able to help you determine which type of veneers best suit your individualized needs. We invite you to visit our request an appointment page to schedule a complimentary consultation where you can spend 10-15 minutes, one-on-one with Dr. Flax, to discuss your desires and preferences.
Do Porcelain Veneers stain?
